About Me

Hi! My name is Andrea Flores Miranda and I am a 24-year-old artist who was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The name “Nena’s Diary” came from a nickname my father gave me growing up. In Spanish, Nena is a nickname for the name Andrea and is also often used as a term of endearment. I wanted to pay tribute to my Mexican culture and include this piece of my identity in my work. I am a very nostalgic person, and it carries through in my art.
Family albums, toys from my childhood, food I grew up eating, and my favorite films are sources of inspiration for me. However, I want people to connect with it through their own memories by hopefully relating to the familial and human connection. I want to create expressive and whimsical work that my viewers can project themselves onto — allowing themselves to feel nostalgic or dreamy.
The use of vibrant, inorganic colors for the underpainting helps the snapshot-based work depart from reality while still focusing on the subject matter. I paint the way I feel about the memory. These vibrant colors I use for the underpainting express the fondness or various feelings I have for these memories. I want my work to transport its audience in a way that strays just far enough from reality to reminisce. My goal is for people to project their own memories and childhood onto mine.
